Highland distillery GlenDronach is releasing 15 Sherry and Port cask-matured single malt whiskies as part of Batch 16 of its annual cask release programme.
The whiskies, distilled between 1989 and 2006, range from 11 to 28 years old and have been matured exclusively in Spanish oak Sherry butts and puncheons.
However the range also includes a 13-year-old matured in a Port Pipe, an unusual addition to GlenDronach’s annual cask release programme, which was chosen to highlight the distillery’s ‘finesse and ripe bramble fruitiness’.
GlenDronach master blender Rachel Barrie said: ‘The Batch 16 cask selection showcases facets of the GlenDronach house style; robust, elegant, fruity and full-bodied.
‘Each cask individually demonstrates rich layers of Sherry cask maturation found in every GlenDronach expression; from the 28-year-old Sherry butt distilled in November 1989 with the mellow maturity of rich fruitcake, to the 22-year-old PX puncheon distilled in June 1995 with sweet treacle toffee and manuka honey.’
Each cask will yield between 513 and 698 bottles, with prices ranging from about $100 right through to many thousands for high age statement single malts .
