Bream Creek Wines Tasmania

Bream Creek Pinot Noir 2016 released today

New-look branding, a major award from Gourmet Traveller Wine and a Best in Show accolade in the Decanter Asia Wine Awards are the latest news in the past week for Tasmanian winery Bream Creek.

At the Gourmet Traveller Wine Winemaker of the Year Awards held last week, Fred Peacock was named 2018 Viticulturalist of the Year for his work on vineyards around Tasmania. Huon Hooke said of his selection for the award, “There are few stronger supporters of the Tasmanian wine industry than Fred Peacock. What he doesn’t know about growing grapes on the island is probably not worth knowing.” Fred was recognised for his achievements at Bream Creek, its long-running show success, particularly for pinot noir, but also sparkling and riesling, as well as his contribution to and advocacy of the local Tasmanian industry more broadly.

This comes at the same time as the Bream Creek Pinot Noir 2016 – released today – was awarded Best in Show and 97 Points at the 2018 Decanter Asia Wine Awards.

Vintage 2016 was simply spectacular in Tasmania. Ideal growing conditions provided the platform to grow fruit that was of excellent quality, with perfect balance between flavour and physiological ripeness.

This cool climate Pinot Noir has a generous cherry and spice nose and an intense palate of dark and red cherries, blue fruits and hints of raspberry, supported by fine grained tannins.

This 2016 Tasmanian Pinot Noir is a clear deep red in colour. The aromas are fresh, lively and light, with ample plum, pomegranate and spiced raspberry richness. The oaking is so discreet as to be invisible as a clear aromatic note, merely helping to round out the wine’s aromatic profile and soften the fruit contours a little. On the palate, the wine is lively, juicy, exuberant and long, the fruits bubbling and cascading through the mouth to a soft, gentle end. Acidity is a more prominent component here than tannins, which are very gentle, but the acidity itself is ripe and well-rounded, perfectly bonded to the fruits. Drink 2018-2026.
