Halliday Wine Companion 2020 | Awards Announced

We’re delighted to share some great news from our producers from the Halliday Wine Companion Awards held last night.

The release of the annual Wine Companion is a great celebration for the industry as a whole, and we congratulate all of our producers, especially Glenn James and Jo Marsh from Shy Susan Wines in Tasmania who are represented by our good friends at Vigorous Brothers. Clare and Keith Mugford of Moss Woodthe Thomson family and Justin Purser at Best’s Great Western, and the Horgan family, Tim Lovett and Phil Hutchison at Leeuwin Estate.

Their awards and representation in the 2020 Wine Companion are wonderful recognition of their contribution to Australian wine. We look forward to sharing many more great reviews with you soon.

Best New Winery of the Year

Glenn James and Jo Marsh are committed to showcasing the best Tasmania has to offer. With only their second release under them, the Shy Susan wines have absolutely smashed expectations, and while small-batch and low key, it seems unlikely that Jo and Glenn’s wines will be able to fly under the radar any more.

Best’s Thomson Family Shiraz 2017

There may be no other winery that defines the essence of Australia more than Best’s Great Western; family, history, truly unique wines, and its own region. Its prized Shiraz includes the 15 rows of vines planted in 1868 that produce the Thomson Family Shiraz, as well as the other flagship Bin No. 0, one of the longest consecutively labelled wines in Australia.

Best Chardonnay List

Leeuwin Art Series Chardonnay 2016

Few stories can be told about modern Australian wine without mentioning the amazing rise of Margaret River, and Leeuwin Estate as a pioneer. Founded by Denis and Tricia Horgan in 1979, it is the star estate of Margaret River’s southern area; with a particular pedigree in its famed Chardonnay, but also relatively recent acclaim for Cabernet and Shiraz.
