House of Suntory has released the first single grain whisky from its Chita distillery into the Australian market with a retail price of $90.
Crafted on the Chita Peninsula in Japan’s seaside Aichi Prefecture, Chita Single Grain Whisky is marked by its superb smoothness and balance.
It is this silkiness of flavour that saw Chita whiskies traditionally used as the ‘dashi’ or broth used to enhance the renowned Suntory blends.
It was the current master blender, Shinji Fukuyo, who decided to age the whiskies in wine and Spanish oak casks, as well as the traditional American oak, to create a mild yet sophisticated whisky that could be released as a single grain expression.
The result is a light, delicately sweet whisky with notes of honey and crème brûlée, perfect for introducing new consumers to the Japanese whisky category.
Chita will be distributed across both on and off premise from early February, and is recommended served neat or on the rocks.
