Baron Samedi (French for Baron Saturday) is one of the Loa or gods of Haitian Voodoo. He is usually depicted with a top hat, black tail coat, dark glasses, and cotton plugs in the nostrils, as if to resemble a corpse dressed and prepared for burial in the Haitian style. He has a white, frequently skull-like face (or actually has a skull for a face), and speaks in a nasal voice. Infamous former President for Life of Haiti, François Duvalier, modelled his cult of personality to Baron Samedi; he was often seen speaking in a deep nasal tone and wearing dark glasses. In the James Bond movie Live and Let Die, Mr. Big uses the image of Baron Samedi to instill fear in his followers
He is also noted for disruption, obscenity, debauchery, and having a particular fondness for tobacco and rum. So what better character to feature on a new spiced rum!
Baron Samedi Spiced Rum features natural ingredients including vanilla, cocoa, cinnamon, clove and vetiver. Baron Samedi Spiced Rum is described as smooth and rich. The taste profile includes woody and earthy flavours, which are derived from the vetiver, which is sourced from Haiti. Vetiver is a type of grass that is mainly cultivated for the fragrant essential oil distilled from its roots.
