2016 was a successful year for Greta and Reg Papps of the Ironbark Distillery. The 2016 San Francisco World Spirits Competition put their products on the world stage, awards were given to both their Gin’s and Moonshine’s. I’ve got a feeling this is only the beginning of what is going to be a wild ride for the distillery in the coming years.
Reg set out to make his dream a reality in Richmond, in the outer western suburbs of Sydney after taking a redundancy from Shell as a commercial distiller. The Ironbarks Spirits Collection are crafted with the ‘perfect proportions of carefully selected, minimal ingredients’ along with the use of their specially designed still resulting in the ‘superb flavour profile’ with a ‘unique Australian twist’.
A major win was their inclusion in the China Wine and Spirits Awards; a route to the multi billion dollar Asian spirits market. The Chai Spirit, along with both the Dry Gin and the Dry Wattleseed Gin won prestigious Double Gold Awards which are held in high regard by consumers in the Asian market. The Chinese spirits industry is on track to be the largest in the world – talk about opportunity!
The Ironbark Dry Gin was awarded category winner for the Best Traditional Gin in Australia at the World Gin Awards in London for 2017 AND in the coming weeks The Ironbark Distillery is a contender for the World Drink Awards Dry Gin category. We wish them all the best!
