Delord Armagnac

French Armagnacs: House of Delord

The vineyard of 42 hectares, divided into 11 parcels, is located in the village of Lannepax. It is made up of the four traditional Armagnac grape varieties: Ugni Blanc 56%, Colombard 24%, Baco 14% and Folle-Blanche 6%.

The four grape varieties are harvested, pressed and vinified separately in a winemaking cellar, a few metres from the distillery. Temperature control, must settling and racking are all techniques well mastered by Sylvain Delord, who is looking for an aromatic wine that is slightly acidic and low in alcohol which is the ideal wine for the distillation.

The distillation (distillery is located in Lannepax, the family’s native village), an essential and fascinating step in the creation of Armagnac takes place in the heart of winter. Delord is one of the only Armagnac houses using two methods of distillation; the continuous distillation method that is typical for Armagnac and the double distillation. Two Armagnac alambics, one of which is a Sier dating from 1900, are both column stills equipped with particular plates called spider plates which are ideal for the production of old Armagnacs. The two double distillation stills produce fruity eaux-de-vie destined for young Armagnacs.

Delord cellars contain more than 1000 barrels and a dozen oak tanks that age and protect the Armagnac eaux-de-vie date from the 20th century to the present day. The oldest vintages are kept in Bonbonnes (glass jars) away from the light, in a room called Paradise.

House of Delord offers a variety of Armagnac blends

Fine armagnac
Fruity taste of fresh apple and grape, warm and supple, this Armagnac can be used in cocktails or in cooking.

Armagnac VSOP
Perfumed and round with aromas of vanilla combined with lovely notes of wood, this Armagnac has enough character to be enjoyed with or without ice.

Hors d’Age
With great aromatic richness, the Hors d’Age Armagnac gives off a bouquet of vanilla and plum, delicate notes of wood and rancio. This Armagnac is typical of the Delord house style.

20 years old
With aromas of dried fruits and vanilla, this 20 year old Armagnac with great aromatic richness will surprise you in the mouth with its notes of soft spice (cinnamon, vanilla), its wood and rancio (nuts).

25 years old
Elegant on the nose with peppery notes and spices, it is in the mouth that the 25 year old will unveil all of its complexity: cocoa, spices (pepper), mellow tannins, vanilla, rancio (nuts) … A great Bas-Armagnac eau-de-vie.

L’Authentique
The Delord Authentique is a blend of very old Armagnacs selected from different barrels that represent to us the most typical vintages from house Delord. An Armagnac with great complexity, combining vanilla, woody, roasted notes with aromas of prunes, nuts and dried fruits. A Bas-Armagnac with a Gascon character!

Blanche Armagnac
Coming from the same terroir as Armagnac, though very different with its transparent colour and its aromas. The nose is intense and complimentary with aromas of fresh grapes, citrus fruits, pear and green almonds. The attack is round and oily. The notes of citrus and pear are always present.
