While the definition of craft beer remains contentious, it’s undeniable that small breweries are more able to experiment with exciting flavours. While some of these attempts to push the envelope are immediately spat out, others can make even the most seasoned beer drinkers’ taste-buds sing. Here are a few crazy (good) craft beers from the best of our collection. Could you handle:
From Australia’s first female-owned brewing company, this curious craftie was inspired by a trip to South California then created by infusing wheat, corn, coriander and lime. Though it sounds weird, this fruity, zesty award winner goes well with hot summer days and spicy Mexican meals. If you’re a total taco lover, try Two Birds Taco Beer today.
Lamington Beer
Like Two Birds, this beer’s the product of two best buds who dreamed of making the most true blue Aussie brew: a lamington ale. By combining chocolate malt with coconut aromas, Quiet Deeds have created a beer that’s as delicious as it is downright patriotic. If you’re curious about cracking open the alcoholic equivalent of the Southern Cross, snag a Quiet Deeds’ Lamington Ale on our site.
Yet another offering from a two partner brewery, Pikes Beer Company has brewed a complex cask-aged craftie using aged shiraz barrels. The result is an oakey ale with notes of cherry, as smooth as it is delicious. If you like wine as well as beer (and who doesn’t) get yourself a bottle of Pikes Cherry Kriek 2014 before someone else sniffs it out.
Melon Ale
Okay, we’re starting to think craft beer is built on the rule of twos. Batch Brewing Co began as a dream shared by two American Sydney-siders, and has grown into one of the city’s most experimental alehouses. Fresh from our recently finished Summer, this fruity ale’s golden malt bill and aromatic El Dorado hops were topped with over a hundred litres of hand-pressed watermelon juice. For a fruity farewell to Summer, see if you can snatch a bottle of What A Melon Summer Ale from our store.
